Congratulations, Dr Schneider and Dr Vogel!

In mid of June, our pseudo-siamese twins, Lukas Schneider and Caspar Vogel defended their PhD thesis and were rewarded their doctor title.

On Wednesday, 14th of June 2023, Lukas Schneider defended his PhD (under strict non-disclosure agreements that everyone needed to sign, curtesy by Unitectra) titled A novel selection approach for DNA-encoded libraries using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase. His doctoral comitee consisted of Dennis Gillingham as his first supervisor, Konrad Tiefenbacher as his second, and Andreas Brunschweiger as his external expert; while Christof Sparr chaired the session. Lukas excellently presented the topic and mastered the subsequent oral examination. After that, a small apéro took place in the courtyard - small because if was the middle of the week and everyone needed energy for the second defence in our group. He is the third DEL scientist graduating from our group.

On Friday, 16th of June 2023, Caspar Vogel defended his PhD titled Repurposing MGMT as a kill switch in chemical biology and as a novel mode of action in protein degradation. Besides his first supervisor, members of his comitee were Christof Sparr and Felix Hausch; while Florian Seebeck chaired the session. Caspar, too, excelled at his presentation and realized just in time that his 20-minutes-presentation was not supposed to only require 10 minutes ... ;) After that, he managed to survive the oral examination as well. The evening culminated in another apéro, where many people stayed until after midnight. He is the second person from the group graduating on the MGMT project that cost a lot of manpower.

Congratulations to both of you, and present your hats proudly (or hide them in the attic, never to be seen again).
